Terms of Service - Offscroll

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Offscroll ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

2. Description of Service

Offscroll is a screen time intervention app for iOS that helps users manage the time they spend on selected applications. The App uses Apple's Screen Time APIs (FamilyControls, DeviceActivity, ManagedSettings) to monitor app usage and present pause screens when a user-defined time budget is exceeded.

Offscroll provides personalized intervention messages, breathing exercises, community social proof, progress tracking, and related features designed to support healthier technology habits.

Offscroll is not a medical device, therapeutic tool, or substitute for professional mental health treatment. It is a self-directed behavior change tool.

3. Screen Time and Device Access

Offscroll requires Screen Time authorization to function. By granting this permission, you allow Offscroll to:

Monitor usage of apps and categories you select
Present pause screens when your time budget is exceeded
Temporarily restrict access to selected apps until the next budget window

You may revoke Screen Time permission at any time through iOS Settings. Doing so will immediately stop all monitoring and remove all pause screens. Offscroll cannot access your Screen Time data, app usage details, or any information beyond what Apple's APIs provide to the app.

4. Subscriptions and Payments

Offscroll offers a free tier and an optional paid subscription ("Community PRO") that unlocks additional features including community message authoring and impact tracking.

Subscription terms:

Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase.
Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period at the rate of your selected plan.
You can manage and cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID account settings (Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions).
Any unused portion of a free trial period, if offered, will be forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
Refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with their App Store refund policies.

Subscription prices may change. We will notify you of price changes in advance, and you will have the opportunity to cancel before the new price takes effect.

5. User Content

You may create the following content within Offscroll:

Letters to future self: Personal notes stored on your device only. These are never shared.
Community messages (PRO): Intervention messages you author for other Offscroll users. By submitting a community message, you grant Offscroll a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display that message to other users as part of the intervention experience. Community messages must not contain hate speech, harassment, explicit content, personal information, or any content that violates applicable law.

We reserve the right to review and remove community messages that violate these guidelines.

6. Data and Privacy

Your use of Offscroll is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes what data is collected, how it is used, and your rights. The Privacy Policy is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

You may delete all of your local data at any time using Settings > Reset All Data within the App.

7. Intellectual Property

Offscroll, including its design, code, intervention messages, scoring algorithms, and brand assets, is the intellectual property of the developer. You may not copy, modify, distribute, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works based on the App.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

Offscroll is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee that:

The App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with all devices
Screen Time APIs will function identically across all iOS versions and devices
The App will achieve any specific behavioral outcome
Time saved estimates will be precisely accurate (they are based on research averages)

Apple's Screen Time APIs have known limitations that may affect the App's ability to monitor usage or present pause screens in all circumstances. These limitations are outside our control.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall the developer of Offscroll be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, use, or profits, arising out of or in connection with your use of the App.

Our total liability for any claims arising from your use of the App shall not exceed the amount you paid for the App or subscription in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

10. Modifications to the Service

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the App or any feature at any time, with or without notice. We will not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the App.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.
